Located in the heart of Bandera, Texas, the 11th Street Cowboy Bar is a true slice of authentic honky tonk culture that beckons locals and visitors alike for an unforgettable night out. This quintessential cowboy bar offers much more than your typical watering hole experience — it's a vibrant gathering place where rugged Texas charm meets warm hospitality and live entertainment.
Step inside and you’ll immediately notice the carefully preserved rustic ambiance punctuated by the iconic horse hitching posts out front, a subtle nod to the town’s cowboy heritage. The atmosphere here is lively yet inviting, where friendly bartenders and waitstaff serve up not only the coldest beer in Bandera, including local Texas brews and Heineken, but also a unique grill-your-own-steak concept that truly sets this bar apart.
Imagine picking your own perfectly marbled Wagyu ribeye or New York strip from the market just down Main Street, bringing it along, then grilling it right at the bar while enjoying cold drinks and great music. Customers rave about the “steak and fixings” where sides like crisp salad, a baked potato with all the trimmings, and fresh rolls perfectly complement your expertly grilled ribeyes. The option to bring your own ribeyes adds a personal touch that speaks to cowboy camaraderie and culinary freedom. The steak sauce and yakiniku flavors offer an adventurous spin for those looking to elevate their taste buds beyond traditional Texas fare.
Real visitor experiences echo the warmth and authenticity of the 11th Street Cowboy Bar. Jeremy Jones highlights the friendly service and fun vibe — playing pool, enjoying live music, and being welcomed as part of the community. Elizabeth Russell appreciates the welcoming day-drinking atmosphere with excellent, approachable bartenders in the quaint adjoining bar. For those willing to dance, Kathy West’s recommendation to learn an easy two-step is spot on, inviting guests to make new friends on the lively dance floor. Meanwhile, F_Starr73’s story of initially feeling unsure walking in alone only to be embraced by the local charm perfectly captures the inclusive spirit that radiates from this honky tonk. Qua Saruk sums it up well describing it as a “quint honky tonk” with good service, affordable prices, and live music that keeps you coming back.
Whether you’re a steak lover ready to grill your own masterpiece, a music enthusiast craving live country beats, or simply seeking the genuine camaraderie of a Texas local bar, 11th Street Cowboy Bar is an unmissable destination in Bandera. It blends tradition and hospitality into a raw yet polished experience that leaves a lasting impression long after the last cold beer is poured.
I recently rode here with some brothers for a sit down with some other people, and I have to say that this place was cool. Bartenders and waitresses were great. We played some pool, listened to some good music, and had a good time. We were all pleased with the service and atmosphere here.
We went to the small bar during the day connected to this venue. We did not have food. It was a quaint little place! The bartender was excellent and friendly! It is a great day drinking bar!
This is an amazing place, bring your own steak, there’s a market at the end of Main Street. Bring a knife to cut into your steak as you’re grilling to check doneness. You pay for sides as you enter… salad baked potato with trimmings and a roll. I would recommend learning the two step an easy dance to go out on the dance floor with confidence and talk with the people around you, make some friends, it will definitely make for an awesome night!
I am going start this review a little different, because I didn’t go to drink. I saw the horse hitching post and wanted to take a look inside…. That was a HUGE mistake. Lol. I took a peak inside and a customer tells me,”Come on in”. I was alone and I have always felt awkward walking into a bar aloneAnyways, moving forward, My jaw fell to the floor. The ambiance was exactly what a person would expect from a small town bar. I met some Very sweet customers and the Bartender was beautifull, polite and her attire wasn’t something you would see at some big town club. She actually dressed appropriate. Lots of bars have bartender dressing inappropriate and uncomfortable to take a husband or boyfriend around(just sayin). Her name was Maria. She told me to take a look around and there were 3 customers that I had an actual conversation with. Sandy and Bob, at the next table there was another gentleman named Ken. They were very polite and I did not feel awkward at all. The owners name is Richard Sutton and he was extremely nice and told me a little about the place. I hadn’t planned on staying so long, but it was so inviting, and laid back, I ended up staying longer than I should have. lol. I started to look around and I was AMAZED by the history on the walls and all around me. This little place where people still ride horses is the very definition of what a person would expect from a small town country bar. 11th Street Cowboy Bar is smack dab in the heart of Bandera. Bandera is known as the 'Cowboy Capital of the World.' This lively bar offers an authentic Texas experience, featuring live music, dancing, and a vibrant atmosphere. With a rustic decor and outdoor seating, it attracts both locals and tourists wanting to enjoy country music and dance the night away. The bar also hosts various events and showcases talented musicians, making it a staple in the local community while embodying the spirit of Texas culture.. Wait for the best part….. Ready? They have a STEAK night! You bring your own steak and they cook it up for you. They provide all of the extra stuff, like sides and condiments. FOR REAL! It’s only 1 night a week and it’s the only time they serve food. They have LIVE bands on steak night, Fridays and Saturdays. Local bands and out of towner’s. If I did not see this for myself I would never have believed it. I am definitely going back on steak night. The customer service was unbelievable, the bar didn’t even have that old beer stench. It smelled clean to me. The floors, tables and bars were all clean, didn’t see dirty ashtrays everywhere. Now I am going to share pictures. It looks small from the outside but OMG! It’s HUGE! I did see some horse poop in the parking lot and it just made it even more authentic looking. I was stupid smiling the whole time. I was actually mesmerized by it all. I don’t usually mix my social media accounts with my Google experiences, but today, I shared. That’s how impressed I was. If EVER want to feel a Texan experience, this is your place. My daughter went to the high school. For lunch they would park at the church walk across the street and go play pool at the local bars. lol. This is not a “just for show” place to trap tourists, it’s an authentic Texas city with an authentic Texas experience. It’s the reason I moved to this county a few yrs back.. I am a 5th generation Texan and I grew up doing the same thing my daughter did. It’s a Texas thing. lol. If planning a vacation or want to go on a road trip, ADD this bar to your plans. You won’t regret it. This place is way better than 5 stars. If I could, I would review it as a 10+.
Quint honky tonk, good service, very reasonable prices eg $4 beer bottle. Live music. Lounge but not too loud.
Great bar and a huge outdoor music venue in the back, Excellent bartender
After passing through Lakehills, I was reading places to have a nice drink after looking at a few overpriced homes and I Seen a review on this bar. I had to stop and check it out. The review was spot on. I recommend stopping if ever in Bandera TX. It was basically a book review. Hahahaha. But I loved it. I will definitely be back for their steak night. Before heading back home to Helotes, I decided to stop at the Schotts on 16. That’s my next review.
Really fun place to go. I don't know how to rate a bar I just went there drank drinks with friends and I had a great time. I would go there again and again it was really fun.
